Ian Chuang, M.D., Senior Vice President, Healthcare Informatics & Chief Medical Officer


Ian Chuang is passionate about consumer decision support, patient experience, and the value of a human-centered design in healthcare IT. He is focused on the development of innovative clinical solutions for behavioral and mental health clients in environments of disruption, convergence and integrated care. Chuang is an experienced healthcare informatics specialist with a clinical background in family medicine. Prior to joining NetSmart–a leading EHR for behavioral health–as SVP of Healthcare Informatics and Chief Medical Officer, Chuang served as the director of medical nomenclature in the development of the Cerner EHR. Having worked in two leading academic medical systems in Canada and the US, Ian has provided clinical leadership to various HIT vendors, payers, providers and consulting organizations, including Cigna, McKesson, Lockton, Cerner, TherapyEdge, and Click4Care. He actively participates in various private-public sector and standards organizations, including the advisory committee at the National Quality Forum, to further data standards and quality.


Healthcare must improve outside the walls of traditional medical environments. The use of innovative design thinking and strategies can be a big contributor to that transformation.
